Hard-refresh your browser

  • Press Ctrl + F5 (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + R (Mac) to bypass the cache.
  • If that fails, open the page in an incognito / private window.

Clear cookies and cache

  • Open your browser settings → Privacy / History.
  • Clear cookies and cached files for the last hour, then reload.

Flush your DNS

  • Windows: open Command Prompt and run ipconfig /flushdns.
  • macOS: open Terminal and run sudo killall -HUP mDNSResponder.
  • Linux: run sudo systemd-resolve --flush-caches (or systemctl restart nscd).

Restart your router

  • Unplug the router and modem for 30 seconds.
  • Plug them back in and wait until all lights are stable, then retry.

Try a different DNS or VPN

  • Switch your DNS to 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare) or 8.8.8.8 (Google).
  • Use a reputable VPN to test from a different country — useful when the site may be region-blocked.

What usually breaks on Netflix

Netflix is the largest subscription streaming service in the world. Full outages are rare because Netflix serves video from its own hardware inside ISP networks — which also means an outage is often specific to one ISP or region rather than global.

  • Playback fails but browsing works

    The catalogue is served separately from the video itself. If you can browse but nothing plays, it is Netflix's delivery network or your ISP's connection to it.

  • Errors specific to one ISP

    Netflix caches content inside ISP networks. A fault in that hardware affects only that provider's customers, so Netflix can be genuinely down for you and fine for a neighbour on another ISP.

  • One device fails while others work

    Smart TV apps are frequently the last to be fixed and the first to break. If your phone plays fine and the TV does not, the app is the problem.
